1. As refractories: Graphite and its products have the properties of high temperature resistance and high strength. Graphite crucibles are mainly used in metallurgical industry. Graphite is often used as protective agent for ingots and lining of metallurgical furnaces in steelmaking.
2. Conductive material: used in the electrical industry as the coating of electrodes, brushes, carbon rods, carbon tubes, mercury positive current, graphite gaskets, telephone parts, television picture tubes, etc.
3. As wear-resistant and lubricating material: Graphite is often used as lubricant in mechanical industry. Lubricating oil can not be used at high speed, high temperature and high pressure. Graphite wear-resistant materials can work at high sliding speed at 200 ~ 2000 C without lubricating oil. Piston cups, sealing rings and bearings are widely made of graphite materials for conveying corrosive media. They do not need to be lubricated when they are running. Graphite emulsion is also a good lubricant for many metal processing (wire drawing, pipe drawing).
4. Graphite has good chemical stability. The specially processed graphite has the characteristics of corrosion resistance, good thermal conductivity and low permeability. It is widely used to make heat exchangers, reaction tanks, condensers, combustion towers, absorption towers, coolers, heaters, filters and pumps. Widely used in petrochemical industry, hydrometallurgy, acid-base production, synthetic fibers, paper and other industrial sectors, can save a lot of metal materials.
5. For casting, sand-turning, die-pressing and high temperature metallurgical materials: Because graphite has small thermal expansion coefficient and can withstand rapid cold and heat changes, it can be used as a casting mould for glassware. After using graphite, ferrous metals can obtain precise size of castings, high surface finish rate, and can be used without processing or slight processing, thus saving a lot. Quantity of metal. In powder metallurgy processes such as cemented carbide production, the ceramic boats for pressing and sintering are usually made of graphite materials. Crystal growth crucibles, regional refining containers, support fixtures, induction heaters, etc. of monocrystalline silicon are all made of high purity graphite. In addition, graphite can also be used as graphite insulation plate and base for vacuum smelting, high temperature resistance furnace tubes, rods, plates, grids and other components.
6. Used in atomic energy industry and national defense industry: Graphite has good neutron decelerant used in atomic reactor. Uranium-graphite reactor is one of the most widely used atomic reactor at present. The decelerating materials used in atomic power reactors should have high melting point, stability and corrosion resistance. Graphite can fully meet the above requirements. Graphite used as an atomic reactor requires high purity, and impurity content should not exceed dozens of PPM. In particular, the boron content should be less than 0.5PPM. Graphite is also used in the defense industry to make solid fuel rocket nozzles, missile nose cones, spare parts of space navigation equipment, thermal insulation materials and radiation protection materials.
7. Graphite can also prevent scaling of boilers. Relevant unit tests show that adding a certain amount of graphite powder in water (about 4-5 grams per ton of water) can prevent scaling on the surface of boilers. In addition, graphite coated on metal chimneys, roofs, bridges and pipelines can be anti-corrosion and rust-proof.
8. Graphite can be used as pencil lead, pigment and polishing agent. After special processing, graphite can be made into various special materials for use in relevant industrial departments.
